Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former minister V Srinivas Goud on Tuesday alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was openly asking women to “wear the saree given by the government and vote for the Congress”. He said it was tantamount to violation of the model code of conduct. He wondered as to why the sarees were not distributed for the last two years.
Addressing a news conference along with former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy and MLC Dasoju Sravan, he said the Congress government had betrayed the BCs by failing to ensure implementation of the promised 42 per cent reservation.
Launching a scathing attack on the Congress government for the yawning gap between its promises and their implementation, he said the government had reduced the State Election Commission into a “pocket organisation”. He questioned as to why the sarees were being distributed just ahead of the gram panchayat polls. He pointed out that SC/ST reservations for ward members were based on 2011 census, but the same population proportion was denied for sarpanch posts.
The Kamareddy Declaration promising higher BC reservations was “thrown into the dust bin”. Local body reservations for BCs were manipulated, causing large-scale injustice, he added.
