Hyderabad: Raising concern over the suicide of yet another farmer in the State, BRS MLA and former Minister T Harish Rao said on Saturday that the situation in the erstwhile Adilabad was grim. The alarming trend of suicides had raised serious questions about the government and the response of the district administration concerned. A farmer named Mamilla Narasayya from Vartmannur in the Bazar Hatnur Mandal of Adilabad district had taken his own life succumbing to the burden of debt. This incident has drawn widespread attention. Harish Rao, expressing deep condolences, pointed out that four farmers had died by suicide in the erstwhile Adilabad district in less than a week.

Harish Rao criticized the Congress administration, stating that the lack of support and assurance for farmers had led to a loss of morale among them. He accused the Congress party of failing the very farmers who were feeding the nation, leaving them in dire straits. Rao questioned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s claims of completing loan waivers, pointing out that farmers were still resorting to extreme measures due to unmanageable debts. Harish Rao demanded that the Congress government take full responsibility for the suicides of farmers and called for an ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh to families of the deceased farmers. He emphasized that suicide was not a solution and urged farmers to stay strong and fight for their rights, assuring them that the BRS stood in solidarity with them.
