Mulugu: Director General, union Ministry of Tourism, Ganji Kamala Vardhana Rao appreciated the efforts of the State government in identifying the components and allotting land for the development at the UNSECO heritage site Ramappa temple at Palampet village in the district, and promised that steps would be taken for allotment of funds required at the earliest.
He along with Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), Managing Director B Manohar Rao and other officials of the Tourism department visited the temple on Monday.
After inspecting the temple premises and its surroundings including the historic Ramappa temple nearby, Kamala Vardhan Rao asked the Telangana government to submit a detailed project report (DPR) on the proposed development at Palampet at the earliest. The temple has been recently chosen for the development under the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme of the Ministry of Tourism. The TS government through TSTDC has already submitted a proposal to it for the development with a view to attract more tourists including the international tourists to the Palampet as the Ramappa temple was given the world heritage site tag last year.
This recognition has catapulted the temple as well as Telangana Tourism onto the global tourism map. As part of the initiatives to develop the region, and temple vicinity, Telangana government has identified some unique components. Land required for the proposed development has been handed over by district authorities to the TSTDC in order to expedite the development. A 10-acre land parcel has been identified for developing an international standard Interpretation Centre. The site will also host various facilities for the pilgrims such as a large parking area, public amenities, retail shops, and an amphitheatre. From this site, pilgrims will walk to the temple through a 27 acres of the land parcel which shall form a promenade with major landscaping elements. This would include seating benches, walking pathways, a lined canal to guide the natural water flows.
The concept is to allow pilgrims to view the temple fromthe entire 27 acres land parcel and create a large public space and resting area. A3D projection mapping show is proposed to project on the temple monument to captivate the pilgrims after sunset. The temple is located close to the Ramappa Lake which is a perennial water body and hosts many festive occasions for the Rudreshwara Swamy the presiding deity at the Ramappa temple. The bund along the lake is proposed to be extended to create a pathway and seating areas overlooking the lake. Floating jetties and boats are proposed under the project concept. District Collector S Krishna Aditya, Additional Collector Ila Tripathi, Additional SP Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, District Tourism Officer, erstwhile Warangal, M Shivaji, officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), DRO Rama Devi and revenue officials of Venkatapur mandal were present during the visit.
