Hyderabad: Government whip Guvvala Balraju on Wednesday said the Union government was trying to scrap reservations for SCs and STs through privatisation of public sector units.
“We will oppose all such attempts by the Union government and fight tooth and nail to get our rightful share,” Balaraju, initiating the discussion on motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the State Assembly, said.
“All attempts are being made to disturb the secular fabric of the county. I am even getting threatening calls from UK and US and I have informed the DGP about this,” he said.
Government Whip Gongidi Sunitha said Telangana, which was once known for drought and famine, has now been completely transformed into an agrarian State. “In just 11 months after State formation, water was provided to 20 lakh acre in the State. All this was achieved by redesigning irrigation projects and addressing the long-pending inter-State issues on water sharing with neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra,” she explained.
MIM MLA Pasha Quadri said Covid cases were rising in the State and urged the government to increase beds and ICU wards in various hospitals and to be prepared to meet any emergency situation that may arise.
He also wanted the government to initiate pre-monsoon measures like desiltation works to prevent flooding in Hyderabad in the next rainy season.
Congress Legislative party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka charged that except for rising debts and increasing liquor sales, no other sector was witnessing any growth in the State. He wanted the government to extend interest-free loans and subsidy on drip and sprinkler irrigation system, besides continuing with the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
On the establishment of a turmeric board in Nizamabad, he said: “The government should write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi or lead an all-party delegation to take up the issue.”
BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao, pointing out to remarks by some legislators on the Centre’s attitude towards Telangana, claimed there was no discrimination by the Centre. “We will extend our support if an all party delegation is taken to New Delhi to press for ITIR for Hyderabad,” said Rao.
