Hyderabad: Rainbow Children’s Foundation and Coal India Ltd have signed an MoU to establish a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) centre for children from poor and disadvantaged families, under Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana (TBSY), a flagship CSR initiative of Coal India Limited (CIL).
The facility will provide treatment related to blood disorders like thalassemia and aplastic anemia to children. Patients with such disorders can access management and treatment for thalassemia at the BMT Centre in Rainbow Hospitals.
CIL, which has been partnering with the Union Health Ministry to support the TBSY initiative since 2017, provides financial assistance up to Rs 10 lakh per child for BMT. The patients are recommended for BMT by an expert panel appointed by the Union Health Ministry.
So far, more than 800 children from across the country have received treatment under the scheme. Overall, there are 18 empanelled hospitals, including Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Hyderabad, as BMT Centres under the scheme.
