Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday alleged that the Congress government had betrayed farmers even on power supply, as uninterrupted quality supply for agriculture is no longer a reality. Talking to media persons along with BRS MLA V Sunitha Laxma Reddy after making a surprise visit to the Reddipalli substation, he said farmers are now uncertain of getting even 12 to 13 hours of supply a day.
The Revanth Reddy-led Congress government had failed to deliver on its promise of 24-hour electricity, he alleged. His inspection came after local farmers from Reddypalli and Madduru villages complained of receiving only 12 to 13 hours of power daily, which disrupted their farm activities during the critical Rabi sowing season. Sharing the concerns of the affected farmers, Harish Rao said he was on his way to a party meeting when he received distress calls complaining about irregular electricity supply.
The BRS leaders checked the substation logbook and found evidence supporting the farmers’ complaint that they were getting power supply for less than 12 to 13 hours a day. One logbook entry showed power supply for just 12 hours, another for 14 hours from 5 PM to 3 AM the next day, and yet another for only 13 hours. Drawing a comparison between the present administration and the previous BRS rule, he hailed former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for ensuring round-the-clock power supply to farmers.
He demanded immediate restoration of 24-hour power supply, action against erring officials, and an Assembly debate on power issues. Harish Rao termed the Congress regime anti-farmer for partial implementation of schemes like Rythu Bandhu and loan waivers, and challenged the government to conduct cooperative elections immediately.
