Hyderabad: Students from various Universities campuses have rallied in solidarity with their peers in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) who have been protesting against the State government’s decision to auction 400-acres of land in Kanche Gachibowli.
The English and Foreign Languages University and Jawaharlal Nehru University students condemned ongoing clearing of the biodiversity rich land.
Standing with the UoH Students Union demands, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) president Dhananjay wanted immediate and unconditional release of all students who were detained during protest against clearing of the land for auction.
In a statement, Dhananjay demanded the setting up of an independent and transparent inquiry into the incidents of police action on students besides ending the criminalization of student activism.
The JNUSU wanted restoration of unrestricted students’ access to campus spaces without fear or intimidation.
EFLU Students Union president Vikas Porika said the land auction only serves to further endanger the already depleting natural ecosystems and biodiversity in the name of private profiteering.
“EFLU Students’ Union stands in solidarity with the protesting students of UoH,” he added.
