Eight dogs starve to death in Mancherial
Around 10 days ago, the dogs were transferred to the animal birth control center operated by Mancherial municipality and kept in a room. However, they died after being left unfed due to a strike by the center's staff who boycotted their duties. The incident was uncovered when a foul odor began emanating from the center, causing distress to nearby residents.
Mancherial: Eight stray dogs died, allegedly due to starvation caused by a protest of staffers at an animal birth control centre here on Thursday.
The dogs were shifted to the animal birth control centre run by Mancherial municipality and were kept in a room around 10 days ago. However, they died when they were not fed following a strike launched by the staffers of the centre by boycotting duties. The incident came to the fore when foul smell emanated from the centre causing inconvenience to people living in the neighbourhood.
Except for a doctor of the centre, the staffers were sacked for staging a protest in demand of their salaries a few days back. As a result, none was in the centre to look after the dogs. The dogs died due to lack of food for over a week.
The centre was created near Andalamma Colony on the outskirts of the town at an estimated cost of Rs.35 lakh. It was inaugurated on March 13. It is staffed by a dedicated veterinary doctor to provide treatment and to conduct the birth-control operations to the dogs, two assistants, three dog catchers, a cook and a helper
