Family of brain-dead constable donates organs in Hyderabad
Family members of police constable Kambala Shankar, declared brain dead after an accident, donated his organs under the Jeevandan scheme, helping three patients, as Telangana recorded its 50th organ donation of 2026.
Hyderabad: Family members of a 31-year-old police constable Kambala Shankar, who was declared brain dead, have donated his organs to needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan scheme.
Kambala Shankar, a resident of Thukkapuram, Bhongir, was an AR Police Constable working at Police Headquarters, Amberpet. On March 28, while travelling on his two-wheeler, he accidentally fell from his bike in Bhongir and was shifted to the Government Area Hospital, Bhongir, and later transferred to a private hospital in Hyderabad. Despite medical efforts, his health condition did not improve and he was declared brain dead on March 31.
The police constable’s father Kambala Srisailam made the decision to donate his kidneys and liver, helping three patients in need. A total of two kidneys and one liver were donated to needy patients.
A press release said, “The Jeevandan Programme of Telangana has reached a significant milestone with 49 brain-dead donations recorded this year, and today marked the 50th donation in 2026.”
