Adilabad: Farmers in interior parts of the district are facing difficulties accessing Kapas Kisan, an Android-based application recently launched by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) for cotton procurement.
Those preparing to harvest in November said poor telecom network coverage in remote villages is preventing them from registering on the app and booking slots. Many fear they may have to sell their produce to private traders, resulting in financial losses.
“I could not register my name, land title details, Aadhar number, or book a slot due to poor coverage in my village,” said Chinnaiah from Bazarhathnoor mandal. He added that he remains unclear about the procurement process and whether cotton can be sold the next day if the market is closed after booking a slot.
CCI and marketing officials said they are conducting awareness meetings and assisting farmers in slot booking. They advised farmers to report grievances via the helpline number 1800 599 5779 or WhatsApp at 88972 81111.
Cotton was sown over 10 lakh acres across Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, and Mancherial districts this season. Adilabad accounted for 4.25 lakh acres, Kumram Bheem Asifabad 3.35 lakh acres, Mancherial 1.61 lakh acres, and Nirmal 1.40 lakh acres.
Officials estimate that the erstwhile Adilabad district will yield 84 lakh quintals of cotton. Adilabad alone is expected to produce 34 lakh quintals, followed by Asifabad with 26 lakh quintals. The CCI has set up 27 procurement centres across the region for farmers’ convenience.
Two centres were established at the Adilabad town agriculture market yard, while others are located at Echoda, Gudihathnoor, Indervelli, Bela, Narnoor, Boath, Pochera, Neradigonda, Sonala, Kondapalli, Wankidi, Kagaznagar, Jainoor, Sirpur (T), Luxettipet, Chennur, Thandur, Kannepalli, Bhainsa, Nirmal, Saranapur, and Kubeer mandals. The union government fixed a minimum support price of Rs 8,110 per quintal, up from Rs 7,521 in 2024.
