Khammam: Telangana Rythu Sangham district secretary Bonthu Rambabu demanded that the app booking system for urea supply should be stopped and urea should be supplied to farmers village-wise without any shortage.
Ordinary farmers were unable to obtain urea through the app because they do not have smartphones; if they have phones, they lack the knowledge to download the app and due to the unavailability of signals, he explained.
Rambabu, along with farmers, met with Additional Collector P Srinivas Reddy here on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum. He said that even though the urea supply through app booking was publicised for the past two days, the farmers were unable to download or use the app.
Making use of the situation, the dealers were forcing farmers to buy unnecessary fertilisers along with urea bags. Urea was being sold in the black market at exorbitant prices. The agriculture department should take action to curb the black market and prevent the sale of unnecessary fertilisers to farmers, he demanded.
To ensure the supply of urea without queues and problems, it should be distributed in the villages. Urea should be distributed by issuing coupons based on the cultivated land and the type of crop.
As only one bag of urea was being given regardless of the extent of cultivated land, all family members were compelled to stand in queues to get enough urea for their needs. Similarly, even those without land were ending up in the queues, Rambabu explained.
