Khammam: Five check-posts manned by police, mines and geology department staff have been set up at the State and district borders to control illegal sand transportation, Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt said.
The CP held a meeting with additional DCPs Naresh Kumar and Prasad Rao along with assistant director (Mining) Sainath, assistant director (Ground Water) Ramesh and other officers here on Tuesday to discuss measures to curb illegal sand transportation.
Dutt wanted the officials to take stringent measures to completely eradicate illegal sand transportation trafficking in Khammam district. He said that sand mining should be carried out by paying royalty fees in the areas specified as per government rules.
Sand mining areas in the streams and river basins of the district should be identified and surveillance should be maintained. If sand was illegally transported or stored, fines should be imposed immediately as per the law, cases should be registered and vehicles should be confiscated with continuous monitoring, he said.
Mining and police officials should work in coordination to address the issue. Cases should be registered if violations and irregularities such as zero bills, double trips, excess loads, fake bills, transportation in the wrong vehicle and wrong were found. The names of the main persons behind the illegal sand mining and transportation should be brought out, the CP noted.
The following were the locations where check posts have been set under Khammam police commissionerate; Karepalli-Kota Lingala cross road, Mudigonda-Vallabhi, Bonakal-Vatsavai, Madhira town-Atkur cross road, Sathupalli town-Gangaram ring centre. Police and mining staff would work 24 hours a day in three shifts at the check posts, Dutt said.
