Nine city clusters have been identified to promote research and Hyderabad, which is home to several state and private research centres, talent pool and industry, has been fairly successful in using research for societal good.

Stressing the need for collaboration at various levels, he said the industry and academia should focus on life sciences, defence, aerospace and smart manufacturing, digital technologies and environmental sustainability, which will be key for all domains in future.

“APIs, green manufacturing and additive manufacturing have a lot of economic potential,” he said stressing the need for starting finishing schools which hone the skills of fresh graduates.

Joel Reifman, Consul General, US Consulate (Hyderabad), said the city already home to Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon and several other marquee brands in the IT sector. Global projects and solutions are being handled form Hyderabad. The city is also seeing good traction in aerospace segment with Tata, Lockheed, Boeing and other key players operating here. The Indo-US partnerships are also seen in the vaccine segment. Hyderabad will continue to play a key partner for US companies working in battery technologies, smart technologies and automation. Hyderabad also sends a significant number of students to pursue higher education in the US, he said.

Sunil Kumar, Joint Secretary, DST, said the Government is supporting several research projects including in medical devices and metallurgy. India has recently deregulated the geospatial data.
