FRAI appeals PM to roll back proposed COTPA amendments
FRAI Telangana Chapter staged a protest and appealed to CM KCR to protect the interests and livelihoods of around 6.5 lakh micro retailers and their 30 lakh dependants in the State
Hydrerabad: The Federation of Retailer Association of India (FRAI), a representative body of about 4 crore micro, small and medium retailers across the country, appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and order a recall of the proposed 2020 amendments in the COTPA law which threaten to attack the livelihoods of petty retailers selling tobacco and related products.
On Friday, FRAI Telangana Chapter staged a protest and also appealed to the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao to protect the interests and livelihoods of around 6.5 lakh micro retailers and their 30 lakh dependants in the State who sell multiple products to earn a meagre sum to look after their families and save them from the potential harassment.
Sallauddin Deccani, Vice President, Federation of Retailers Association of India and General Secretary, Pan Shop Owners Association of India, Hyderabad said, “We humbly appeal for the Prime Minister’s empathy and request him to instruct the designated Ministry to immediately roll back the proposed COTPA amendments as they are extremely harsh”.
FRAI members requested the government to be practical and equitable, especially for the lowest socio-economic strata of society who are already struggling to make two ends meet and not impose such harsh, arbitrary and unreasonable restrictions on our right to trade and livelihood, a press release said.
