BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar inaugurates CT Scan center in district headquarters hospital in Karimnagar on Thursday.
Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, on Thursday, said that facilities in district headquarter hospitals had been improved significantly to fulfill the dreams of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in providing quality healthcare to the poor in the State.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating a CT scan centre in the district headquarters hospital here. Later, he participated in hospital development committee meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, he said CT scan is expensive and private diagnostic centres had charged Rs 5,000 from patients during the time of Covid, even though they were instructed to charge only Rs 2,000. The poor were unable to afford it. Therefore, a CT scan centre has been established in the district hospital by spending Rs 2.15 crore. Now, white ration card holders can get CT scan done free of cost while others would be charged Rs 500.
Presently, CT scan services would be available up to 1 pm with a radiologist and assistant radiologist. After September 1, services would be extended to 9 pm by recruiting a radiologist and assistant radiologist.
Government brought a number of reforms in the health sector and is providing quality treatment to the people. In order to build confidence among the public on government hospitals and reduce mother and child deaths, the State government has introduced the KCR kit scheme.
Under the scheme, lactating women have been provided Rs 13,000 for baby girl and Rs 12,000 for boy. So far, 29,987 KCR kits were distributed as against 34,001 deliveries done in Mother and Child Health Centre. For the purpose, Rs 10 crore was spent.
Informing that normal deliveries have been encouraged in MCH, the Minister said 10,995 normal deliveries took place while 23,006 were cesarean deliveries.
Telangana diagnostic centre is also operating successfully. So far, 2,56,940 blood samples of 56,642 patients had been tested in the diagnostic center, where 56 different tests can be done.
Telangana in general and Karimnagar in particular had emerged as models for the entire country by successfully controlling Covid during the first phase. Scores of Covid patients were provided treatment. At present, only 79 Covid patients were there in the district, and of them, 11 patients are on ventilator.
District medical authorities were well prepared in the wake of the third wave alert. Kamalakar instructed officials to take all measures to face the third wave. He wanted the health department officials to take steps to check the spread of seasonal disease and viral fever in the present rainy season.
Instructing officials to spray sanitiser at water logged areas to keep check on mosquito breeding grounds, he advised people to keep their localities clean.
It was decided to construct shopping complexes in hospital land for generating additional revenue that could be utilised to provide quality treatment to people.
The Minister instructed officials to prepare DPR and financial assistance details by the next meeting scheduled in September.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya, District Collector RV Karnan and others participated in the meeting.
