Hyderabad: More than 5,000 empanelled civil contractors have threatened to halt all the ongoing and sanctioned civic works from March 23 across Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC). The move comes against non-payment of dues totaling Rs 700 crore.
“Contractors have decided to halt all the ongoing works after becoming frustrated with inordinate delays in the release of pending dues. This could disrupt critical civil projects. Approximately 100 crore in dues have been pending since October, 2025,” said Sai Kiran, one of the civil contractors of the GHMC.
Works likely to be affected include laying of new CC roads, road repairs and maintenance, developing new cement concrete footpaths, laying of new B T roads, drainage systems, and other GHMC related buildings and other works.
The protesting contractors cited technical glitches in the online Work Management System (WMS) have played a big role in processing of documents and release of their dues. About five months ago, the issue of the faulty WMS system was brought to the notice of senior GHMC officials. However, since then, there has been no response, they said.
Apart from the Rs 100 crore dues, contractors said that an additional Rs 600 crore is reportedly stalled as GHMC officials have allegedly delayed rectifying ‘Enterprise Resource Planning’ (ERP), a software system, which is meant to process all the sanctioned works. Apparently, the ERP software has been defunct for the past several months.
Contractors said they gave a deadline of March 21 to the Commissioners of the three civic bodies to take a final decision, and warned that if there was no response, they would halt works.
