Hyderabad: To contain the spread of Covid- 19 in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has marshaled its resources and in coordination with State government departments initiated a series of measures. Presently, to break the transmission chain, the door-to-door fever survey, distribution of isolation kits and spraying of disinfectants is underway in different parts of the city.

As a part of the fever survey, the teams comprising Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and staffers from the GHMC and Department of Health, Medical & Family Welfare, have been going around the colonies and residential areas enquiring the health status at every home. The enquiries are to collate information on Covid related symptoms such as fever and where required, the householdsd are being handed over home isolation kits.

Details of individuals with Covid-19 symptoms are being collected to ensure appropriate follow-up about their health status. The fever survey was clubbed with vaccination in some localities and in some places, people who were yet to take their second dose of vaccine were guided to the nearest vaccination centre.

During the survey, the civic body officials also informed the people about the GHMC Covid Control Room set up in GHMC Head Office. “We are asking citizens to dial 040 21111111 to get assistance and get their Covid-19 related queries answered. We also inform them about the facilities they can utilise by visiting the nearest Basti Dawakhanas and Urban Primary Health Centres,” said a GHMC official. Based on the fever survey, the entomology wing of the GHMC is scaling up sanitisation at places where more number of fever cases are getting reported and spraying of sodium hypochlorite is being taken up.

These measures taken up by the fever survey teams are in addition to setting up isolation centres equipped with medical staff and beds . “The centres will be made operational in case of emergency, the civic body has strengthened 30 isolation centres i.e. one per each GHMC circle,” he said.
