Gummadidala mandal graduates avoid voting in MLC election to protest against Pyaranagar dump yard
Only 14 per cent of the 295 graduate voters enrolled under Gummadidala polling station (polling station 425) had exercised their franchise
Sanagreddy: The graduates of the Gummadidala mandal had stayed away from the Adilabad-Karimnagar-Medak and Nizamabad- graduate MLC election held on February 27, protesting against the government decision to set up a dump yard at Pyaranagar village.
Only 14 per cent of the 295 graduate voters enrolled under Gummadidala polling station (polling station 425) had exercised their franchise.
According to the polling booth wise voting percentage released by the election authorities, only 42 of 295 graduates voted in Gummadidala, the lowest in the MLC constituency.
The JAC leaders, who have been fighting against the dump yard for the past 23 days, said that they made a call asking the graduates to stay away from the elections to register their protest as the government was ignorant to their appeals to shift the dump yard.
The JAC leaders said that the 42 people, who voted, were migrants, who have been working in various industries in and around Gummadidala.
The 14 per cent of voting is very low compared to 70 per cent polling registered in the constituency and 73.19 per cent of voting recorded in Sagareddy district.
However, out of 19 teachers enrolled for polling under the polling station, 18 exercised their franchise. The farmers of Gummadidala, Pyaranagar, Nallavalli and other villages have decided to continue their protests until the government shifts the proposed dump yard to other places.
