Hyderabad: A 15-year-old Haasini Bhattiprolu, hailing from a Telugu family in San Diego, California, USA, gave her debut Carnatic music performance in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Haasini’s musical journey has been greatly influenced by her grandmother, Rajeswari Chakkilam. Under the mentorship of renowned gurus like Vidwans Dr C M Venkatachalam, H N Bhaskar, and R K Shriramkumar, Haasini has been preserving and advancing the rich traditions of Carnatic music.
A 10th-grade high school student, Haasini is also an active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the Madrigals Honors Choir Program at her school. She has received the prestigious Keith Heldman Music Award from LJCDS and considers it a great privilege to be mentored in Western and world music by Caroline Becker.
Haasini has participated in various prestigious platforms, including the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, Silicon Andhra Music Festivals, North American Telugu Association, and Bay Area Telugu Association competitions, winning several awards.
Haasini is an ambassador for promoting and reciting verses from Bammera Pothana’s Bhagavatam in Telugu. She received guidance in this endeavor from Parthasarathy Nemani and encouragement from Mallik Putcha through the iBAM organisation. She holds a distinction certificate in Carnatic music from Silicon Andhra University’s SAMPADA program.
The concert in Hyderabad was attended by her grandfather and former chairman of Cigniti Technologies, C V Subrahmanyam, her grandmother Rajeswari Chakkilam, her parents Padmaja & Pavan Battiprolu, and her paternal grandfather Bhattiprolu Hanumantha Rao, among others.
