Siddipet: BRS Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao on Sunday challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to dissolve the Assembly and seek a fresh mandate if he was confident of enjoying the people’s support.
Responding to the Chief Minister’s remarks at a public meeting in Nalgonda earlier in the day, Harish Rao accused him of diverting public attention from his government’s failures by resorting to personal attacks instead of addressing issues affecting the people.
The former Minister said Revanth Reddy’s repeated criticism of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, BRS working president KT Rama Rao and himself reflected the Congress leadership’s growing political insecurity.
“If you truly believe your government enjoys public confidence and will remain in power until 2028 or even 2034, dissolve the Assembly and go for elections. Let the people decide who deserves to govern Telangana,” Harish Rao said while addressing party workers in Siddipet.
He alleged that the Congress government had failed to fulfil several major election promises, including Rs.2,500 monthly financial assistance to women, scooters for women, one tola of gold, Rs.4,000 pensions, two lakh government jobs and Rs.15,000 under the Rythu Bharosa scheme.
“To cover up these failures, Revanth Reddy is attempting to divert public attention by repeatedly targeting the BRS and its leadership,” he charged.
Harish Rao questioned why the Chief Minister chose to launch personal attacks instead of answering concerns over Telangana’s rightful share in the Krishna and Godavari river waters following his recent meeting with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
He said it was unfortunate that a Chief Minister was making derogatory remarks about the physical appearance of Opposition leaders instead of focusing on governance.
“Whether I am tall or short is irrelevant. What matters is our commitment to serving the people. It is your mindset that is small, not our stature,” Harish Rao remarked.
Referring to the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel project, the former Minister claimed that the previous BRS government had advanced tunnel excavation by nearly 12 kilometres after overcoming earlier delays. He alleged that the Congress government had failed to make meaningful progress on the project and that eight workers had lost their lives during its tenure.
