Hyderabad: Even as the heat wave conditions continue to prevail across the State, the junior colleges are set to commence their new academic year 2026-27 on Monday. However, parents and government junior lecturers urged the State government to postpone the reopening of colleges by at least a week, citing concerns over students’ health and safety in view of present weather conditions.
The government junior lecturers association and parents wanted the government to put off colleges reopening until June 6 and schedule the classes commencement on June 8.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday, the Government Minority Lecturers Association said considering IMD heat wave warning, universities, including Osmania University and Kakatiya University, have already announced extension of summer vacation for colleges under their jurisdiction.
The government should also extend the holidays for all junior colleges under the Intermediate Education department by a week, said Syed Zabee, president of the Government Minority Lecturers Association.
Meanwhile, the Intermediate Education department is all geared up for the new academic session on Monday. In a review meeting, Intermediate Education department director Abhilasha Abhinav said the department is set to launch new awareness campaigns and counselling programs across all districts.
The department is ready with logistics so that every single student receives their textbooks on time, she said, adding that “We want every student and parent to know about the facilities, high academic standards, welfare schemes, and career paths waiting for them in our government junior colleges”.
