Heavy inflows to Telangana projects; Nagarjuna Sagar brimming
Continuous rains have brought heavy inflows to major Telangana irrigation projects, with Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam, Jurala, Musi, and Sriram Sagar nearing full capacity as floodwaters steadily raise storage levels across reservoirs.
Hyderabad: Major irrigation projects in the State have been receiving heavy floodwaters due to relentless rains, with the Nagarjuna Sagar Project facing steady inflows adding to its storage levels.
The dam is currently receiving over 75,000 cusecs of water, pushing its storage to 310.85 TMC as against its full capacity of 312 TMC. The cumulative inflow to the dam so far this season stands at 356 TMC. Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been drawing waters to feed the extensive ayacut under the NSP left canal and right canal respectively.
Srisailam dam nears full capacity
Upstream, the Srisailam Dam is also receiving heavy inflows of 2,23,802 cusecs while releasing 66,123 cusecs through two gates that were kept open. The dam’s water level is at 883 feet, as against its full level of 885 feet. The dam has a storage of 204.78 TMC against a full capacity of 215.80 TMC. The cumulative inflow to Srisailam has reached 644 TMC, prompting officials to warn against fishing in the project and upstream stretches. Power generation continues at both the right and left power stations.
Jurala and Musi Projects face flooding
The Jurala Project is also experiencing heavy flooding, with an inflow of 135,000 cusecs and an outflow of 147,596 cusecs through five power house units and 17 spillway gates. The water level is at 317.990 metres, nearing its full tank level of 318.516 metres, with a storage of 8.591 TMC out of 9.657 TMC.
In Nalgonda district, the Musi Project is under pressure with an inflow and outflow of 13,254 cusecs. Four gates have been opened to manage the floodwater, with the water level at 643.60 feet, close to its full tank level of 645 feet. The project’s storage is at 4.09 TMC, just below its full capacity of 4.46 TMC.
Sriram Sagar sees steady inflows
In Nizamabad, the Sriram Sagar Project is receiving a steady inflow of 18,000 cusecs, with an outflow of 7,000 cusecs. The water level stands at 1,079 feet, compared to its full tank level of 1,091 feet, with a storage of 44 TMC out of 80 TMC.
