Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two more persons – Pattapu Aadarsh and Lavanuru Samba Siva Reddy – on Saturday in an on-going investigation of a case relating to making derogatory posts on social media against judges and the judiciary.
In all, five persons have been arrested so far by the CBI in the case. Prior to this, the CBI had arrested two persons on July 28 in the same case. It nabbed the first person on July 9.
The CBI registered a case on November 11, 2020, against 16 people and took over the investigation of 12 FIRs from AP CID in pursuance of orders of AP High Court. The original FIRs were registered on the complaints from Registrar General of AP High Court.
The case was registered under Sections 153(A), 504, 505 (2) and 506 of IPC and Section 67 of IT Act, 2000. It was alleged that the accused, by intentionally targeting judiciary, made derogatory posts on social media platform against judges and the judiciary following some court verdicts delivered by the judges of AP High Court.
After registration of the case, the CBI traced out 13 of the 16 people named in the FIR in the case on various digital platforms. Three of them were found to be abroad. The CBI has so far examined 11 of the 13 accused and arrested five of them.
The evidence against the remaining six persons is being evaluated for further necessary legal action. The CBI is pursuing measures to secure the presence of two other accused said to be abroad, for their examination.
Searches were also conducted by the CBI on the premises of the accused which led to recovery of several incriminating documents.
It was also found that one accused was allegedly using a passport with a name different from his real identity. To investigate larger conspiracy, the CBI also examined certain persons including an MP, ex-MLA and also continued investigation into the role of other persons who were not mentioned in the FIR.
Action was also initiated by CBI, after it registered this case to get objectionable posts removed from the social media platforms, public domain and a lot of such posts/accounts were removed from internet.
Investigation is continuing including through the channels of Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), INTERPOL to collect evidence from abroad.
