Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police held a confluence session with industry leaders, technologists, innovators and researchers to understand solution possibilities leveraging the latest from Artificial Intelligence to enable better policing using CCTV camera networks on Friday.
The round table was organised by the International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad’s Applied AI Research Centre and Smart City Living Lab and was chaired by Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra.
Even though Hyderabad has an extensive CCTV camera network, the network is primarily being used for retrospectively investigating incidents for Traffic, Law and Order and Crime. The round table had representation from Society for Cyberabad Security Council, startups, Amsterdam innovation Area and major corporations like PwC, Quantela and Airtel. The session discussed areas where AI and computer vision technology available could be leveraged to build safe communities.
“These emerging technologies can help in prevention and reducing the crime rate, make cities more secure, provide support for the police force and other entities beyond crime detection,” Raveendra said, adding that AI could improve the seamless interconnection between municipal bodies and also help in safeguarding the lives of police and law enforcers.
The Commissioner also shared areas of focus for exploring solutions using AI in Traffic, Law and Order and Crime. IIIT-H director Prof PJ Narayanan, Cyberabad DCP (Traffic) SM Vijay Kumar, SCSC secretary-general Krishna Yedula and others were present.
