Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall on Wednesday night has resulted in flooding at the Balamrai water pump house premises, rendering the pumps inoperable. Nearly one lakh people will be affected due to the affected water supply.
Officials from the Secunderabad Cantonment Board‘s water wing visited the Balamrai Pump House on Thursday, assessed the situation, and announced disruptions in the water supply.
“Consequently, there will be no water supply for the next two days in areas served by the Balamrai pump house, including Picket, Mudfort, and Balamrai,” according to SCB water wing superintendent S Raj Kumar.

“Efforts are underway by the water wing team to restore electrical connections and motors. In the meantime, water tankers will be deputed to the affected areas experiencing supply interruptions. We will update on the restoration of the water supply as soon as it becomes available,” said the SCB official.
Heavy rains have inundated the entire pump house, resulting in the accumulation of mud. All the pumps within the pump house are imported and have been operating since the British era.
The century-old Balamrai water supply was often disrupted by flooding during heavy rains in the Cantonment. In 2020, the Balamrai pump house experienced a similar disruption.
