Hyderabad: Muslims celebrate Eid ul Adha with prayers, sacrifice and festive feasts
Hyderabad witnessed grand celebrations of Eid ul Adha as thousands gathered for prayers at major Eidgahs. Animal sacrifice, traditional food, and bustling sheep markets marked the three-day festival that began on Saturday, drawing crowds from nearby districts as well.
Hyderabad: A festive atmosphere prevails as Muslims across the city celebrate Eid ul Adha, the festival of sacrifice, on Saturday. The festival is celebrated on the 10th of the Islamic month of Zul-hijjah every year.
On the occasion special prayers were held in the morning at various Eidgahs and mosques in the city. The largest gathering was witnessed at the Eidgah Mir Alam at Bahadurpura. Over one lakh people attended the Eid ul Adha prayers at the Mir Alam Eidgah. The Khateeb and Imam of Mecca Masjid Maulana Hafiz Rizwan Qureshi, led the prayers. The mosques in different areas saw huge attendance of the pious.
Huge gatherings were witnessed at Eidgah Qutb Shahi Tombs, Eidgah Bilali Masab Tank, Eidgah Balapur, Eidgah Pahadishareef, Eidgah Balamrai, and important mosques such as Mecca Masjid, Shahi Masjid Bagh e Aam etc.

After the Eid prayers the pious headed home and made arrangements for animal sacrifice. To meet the high demand, butchers from the neighbouring districts of Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Nagar Kurnool and Ranga Reddy district came to the city. They charged between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1200 for their service.
At home, the women were busy cooking and serving Biryani to the guests along with the traditional sweets like Double ka meetha and Qubani ka meeta.
The sheep market throughout the Friday night witnessed heavy rush with a sheep yielding 10 to 12 kilograms of meat being sold at an average price of Rs. 11,000.
The Eid ul Adha will be celebrated for three consecutive days from Sunday to Tuesday.
