Hyderabad: The inaugural Hyderabad Pickleball League will be held from October 10 to November 28 in a round-robin format, featuring eight franchise teams. Each team will have an icon player, 10 players total, including two women and one player aged 35 years and above.
“The whole idea of the HPL, organized by Centrecourt Sports & Entertainment, is to raise the level of competition, showcase the city’s top players in a professional, structured format, and pay the players to play with structured teams and coaching,” according to a media release.
“Each team will have a budget of 3 lakh to acquire nine players. The base prices will range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000, determined by their assigned category (A, B, C, or D). The total prize pool is Rs 12 lakh, with the winner getting Rs 6 lakh, the runner-up Rs 3 lakh, third place Rs 1.20 lakh, the most valuable player Rs 80,000, and the best male and female players getting Rs 50,000 each.”
“There are also efforts to build passionate fan bases through venues, live streaming, and social media stories, and to engage sponsors and businesses with meaningful sports partnerships,” it was informed.
The last date for players to register for the auction pool is August 18, and the players’ auction will be held on August 20.
Every Friday, matches will be played across eight different venues, with each team hosting one full league day. The top four teams from the round-robin league will qualify for the qualifiers, eliminator, and final, on the lines of the IPL.
The league will host a live, professionally moderated auction where all eight team owners will bid for players from this pool. Each team will have a budget of Rs 3,00,000 to acquire nine players. Player base prices will range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000, determined by their assigned category (A, B, C, or D).
