Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police will have a specialised wing to focus on food adulteration in the city.
The Anti-Food Adulteration Team (AFAT) will be supervised by an official of the DCP rank and coordinate with the officials of the Food Safety Authority, GHMC and other concerned departments.
“Focus will be on preventing food adulteration and initiating action against those indulging in adulteration of food items,” said Hyderabad CP, VC Sajjanar.
The Hyderabad police have time and again conducted raids of people indulging in adulteration of food items such as milk products, garlic-ginger paste, chocolates, tea powder, etc. “People are surprised to find a half-litre milk sachet sold for Rs 60 and for Rs 30. Our AFAT team will probe all such complaints,” said Sajjanar.
