Hyderabad: Never did we know that regular Indian things would be of such phenomenal value until a few foreign brands and stores are set to sell them online.
Just a few days ago, luxury fashion house Balenciaga caught the attention of netizens for selling bags resembling “desi thailas” for Rs 1.5 lakh, and now a New Zealand’s home décor store was spotted selling ‘charpai’ — a traditional woven bed — for $800 (Rs 41,668). Originally priced at $1200, the product is currently on sale.
The desi charpai – from a New Zealand-based ANNABELLE’S store – titled the charpai as a “vintage Indian daybed”. Soon, netizens were quick enough to make it the most trending and ridiculed post on internet now.
Joining the crowd, even Anand Mahindra took to his Twitter account to share his two bits about the ‘humble’ Indian charpai.
Wondering what took so long for the world to discover the potential of Indian products, Anand Mahindra tweeted, “The humble ‘charpai’ is an iconic design that’s spare yet elegant & comfortable. It embodies ‘sustainable’ design. In hindsight, I wonder why it took so long for the world to discover it(sic).”
Continuing his tweet, the industrialist also quizzed “what are the other Indian products that have such potential” for international recognition? The Mahindra Group chairman backed clay Kulhar for it.
Subsequently, netizens started sharing their choice of Indian products that need global acknowledgment. For instance, users voted for ‘matka’ (earthen pot), lungi, folding chair, among others.
So, which Indian product do you vote for?
