IRCS-Mancherial blood bank turns boon for thalassemia, sickle cell patients
The patients belonging to not only from erstwhile Adilabad, Warangal, Karimnagar districts, but also from Sironcha of Maharashtra are utilizing the services by visiting the bank throughout a calendar year
Mancherial: Patients of thalassemia and sickle cell are finding a respite as they are able to transfuse blood at a blood bank run by Indian Red Cross Society in Government General Hospital (GGH) for free.
According to the information available, 21,870 units of blood was given to the patients from 2012 to 2024 for free. The patients belonging to not only from erstwhile Adilabad, Warangal, Karimnagar districts, but also from Sironcha of Maharashtra are utilizing the services by visiting the bank throughout a calendar year. The bank was set up in 2012.
The patients can get the blood at the bank after the two blood disorders are diagnosed at the bank. They are provided with necessary medical services and drugs under Aarogyasri, if they are holders of white ration cards. They said that the bank was a ray of hope for them considering the outstanding services to the cause.
Palla Anitha from Prof Jayashankar Bhupalpally district said that she was relying upon the bank for last six years. Many other patients of several parts of north Telangana are relieved to have the service.
They state that they were earlier depending on private hospitals in Hyderabad and Nagpur cities for the treatment and transfusion of the blood.
