Mancherial: Animal Husbandry department director S Ramchandar said on Sunday that action would be taken against those responsible for irregularities in the implementation of the ambitious sheep development scheme of the State government.
Speaking to the media after a field visit in Ninnal mandal, Ramchandar said he had made inquiries into the allegations of certain public representatives leveled against authorities of the department during a general body meeting of Zilla Parishad council on Friday, during his interaction with beneficiaries in Mailaram, Chittapur, Ghanpur and Kurmagudem villages in Nennal mandal.
He disclosed that he had spoken to Bellampalli MLA D Chinnaiah over the phone with regard to this similar issue.
The director further said a three-member committee will probe the wrong-doings of the authorities during the implementation of the initiative in Kasipet, Vemanapalli and other mandals as accused by the elected representatives. As per the guidelines of the scheme, a sheep should on an average weigh 20 kgs, he stated.
Ramchandar disclosed that it had come to their notice that certain beneficiaries were forced to sell the sheep to meet expenditures of weddings, medical expenses. He warned that action would be initiated against those who abuse the scheme without a valid reason. He recalled that cases were booked against 18 beneficiaries in Jagtial district for misusing the initiative.
Under the second phase of the first of its kind scheme, the director said that 3.60 lakh units of sheep would be given to eligible beneficiaries across the State soon. He stated that the units would be handed over to the beneficiaries as soon as the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) sanctions a loan of Rs 5,000 crore. The government would make a decision with regard to extending the scheme to persons aged 18, he added.
Earlier, he learned details of the beneficiaries by gathering information from Mancherial district Animal Husbandry department joint director Dr E Shankar at the latter’s office.
