Hyderabad: Internal differences within the State Congress came to the fore yet again with Sangareddy MLA and TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy deciding to quit from the party, citing humiliation meted out to him by a few leaders within the party. He had also dashed off a letter to the party chief Sonia Gandhi on Saturday to this effect. “Some leaders with malafide intention are portraying me as covert of TRS party. From this moment, I am not associated with Congress and will resign from the party shortly,” Jagga Reddy said in the letter.
It all started on Saturday morning, when the TPCC Working president said he would announce his decision on quitting or continuing in the party.
“I cannot take this humiliation from a few leaders in the party,” Jagga Reddy declared while speaking to mediapersons at a hotel. He said a few people, who were inexperienced and not familiar with party functioning, were trying to defame him with ulterior motives. He was apparently hitting at the TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, but did not name him directly in his interaction with the press. On his future plans and to a pointed question on whether he would join some other political party, the Sangareddy MLA said he would work independently.
“If I want to join TRS party, I will approach Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, none can stop me. But I have decided to quit Congress and work independently,” Jagga Reddy said. Following his statements, party senior leaders, including former MP V Hanumanth Rao and CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka spoke to him and appealed to him to reconsider his decision.
However, late in the evening, the legislated declared that he had decided to quit from the party and would launch a new party.
Of late, there have been differences between Jagga Reddy and a few leaders, especially TPCC president A Revanth Reddy. In December, the Sangareddy MLA had even appealed to AICC president Sonia Gandhi to direct the TPCC president to change his style of functioning or appoint a new TPCC Chief, who works for the party’s development in the State.
Meanwhile, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy dismissed the resignation of Jagga Reddy as a storm in the teacup. There were a few differences among leaders in the party and they would all be fixed, he said while speaking to media persons at Medaram Jathara.
