‘Jathi Ratnalu’ actor’s generosity wins hearts

Jathi Ratnalu actor Jeevan Kumar has been providing food for more than 350 Covid-19 patients everyday besides distributing food at major hospitals

Hyderabad: The imposing personality and the rumbling voice is what strikes our mind when we meet character artiste and entrepreneur Jeevan kumar.

Unlike the lathi-wielding, and the strict demeanour of a cop that audiences usually see him on screen, Jeevan has a generous side to his personality. And in these pandemic days when things have turned uncertain for affected persons and their attendants, he has taken steps to reach out and support them.

The character artiste and the owner of Charcoal BBQ, Madhapur, has been providing food for more than 350 Covid-19 patients everyday besides distributing food at major hospitals like Gachibowli TIMS, Fever hospital, Osmania General Hospital where the footfall of patients is more.

Just before the lockdown, Jeevan has been sending out water and food packets to more than 600 hungry people who accompany their loved ones at hospitals. Now the work has been hampered due to lockdown.

“Our kitchens at Madhapur and Malkajgiri function round-the-clock. Mostly, requests come in through jeevankumarhelpline@gmail.com. I am planning to reach out to children and other organisations with the help of my friends and family. Requests have been coming from people who could not afford essentials, for them, I pay for through GPay. As much as 10,000 kgs of rice was sent to tribal areas like Nagarkurnool, Bhadradri Kothagudem,” says the ‘Jathi Ratnalu’ actor.

He also took up distribution of masks and PPE kits to villagers of Kasimpet and medicines are being sent to rural areas where people can’t come to hospitals. “We’re sending medicines and other equipment to Primary Health Centres in rural areas too. Till recently, we supplied oxygen to hospitals and needy patients. However, we had to halt it due to heavy demand, and later I thought I should focus on food as of now,” he says.

Jeevan appeals to people to have a concern for people surrounding them and extend whatever support they once can. “I have seen instances where people aren’t coming forward to help a fellow neighbour. I’ve experienced it in my apartment. Then I’ve decided to help people by serving food to Covid patients in the city. A small help from a person could save a precious life,” he says.

Jeevan says he would continue to help even those in the film industry. “I know how the pandemic has affected the film industry. And I would try to keep up the pace and reach out and address as many requests as possible,” he signs off.
