Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) is exploring the option of holding online verification for granting affiliation to the private colleges under its ambit for the academic year 2021-22.
Every year, the university invites applications from private colleges for granting affiliation. Following this, the university constitutes fact-finding committees to physically inspect the colleges for facilities, infrastructure, building documents, faculty members etc.
The university is now exploring a new way of carrying out the affiliation process due to the Covid-19 pandemic. If the pandemic situation subsides and restrictions withdrawn, the varsity will revert to its physical inspections.
“Given the pandemic situation, we are exploring whether to go for online or offline (physical inspection) process for granting affiliation. Even the All India Council for Technical Education has been doing online verification. A notification will be issued in 10 days inviting applications from colleges for grant of affiliations. Based on the pandemic situation, we will decide the mode of affiliation process,” a senior official said.
Last year, the university authorities granted affiliation to 233 private professional colleges including 153 engineering, 70 pharmacy and 10 standalone MBA and MCA colleges without inspections due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the university is preparing ground for holding online examinations for fourth-year BTech/ BPharmacy students. Initially, plans are being drawn to conduct an online exam for a mid-term examination in the fourth-year first semester followed by end semester exams of fourth-year second semester which are likely to be held from the first week of July. The university has also employed a new software for conducting online exams.
“Projects and viva-voce will be held first for the final-year students followed by the end semester exams. Monitoring the online exams will be a task for invigilators and there may be scope for malpractice. We are plugging the loopholes before introducing the new system. If the Covid-19 cases come down and the government gives permission, we will hold offline exams. Students will be allowed to appear for the offline exams in a JNTU-H affiliated college nearest to their hometown,” official said.
