Hanamkonda: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy might be averse to learning and speaking English given his recent comments on the language, calling it ‘Engillpiece’, but the professors at Kakatiya University want students to learn the language with zeal for a better future.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a 40-day training programme on ‘Communication skills and personality development’, university registrar Prof. Valluri Ramachandram stated that proficiency in the English language was the first step to success for an individual in their career.
The university’s Centre for English Language Training (CELT) organised the training programme for the 54th batch as part of its objective to impart English language skills to students to help them excel in their careers.
Prof. Ramachandram further suggested that a strong command of the English language acts as a bridge to opportunities, enabling one to live anywhere in the world. He emphasised that anything was possible through practice and urged university students not to miss out on opportunities.
Centre for Distance and Online Education director and in-charge Dean of Arts Department, Prof. B Suresh Lal said that students should utilise the English language teaching classes, which were held for 40 days every evening with a nominal registration fee to improve themselves.
He added that 21st-century skills are soft skills and possessing these skills is important regardless of whether one is from a rural or urban background.
CELT director Dr. R Meghana Rao informed that the students were taught life skills along with English language skills during the 40-day classes. There was a visible improvement among the students in terms of their confidence levels and language proficiency after completion of the classes, she added.
