Karimnagar: The Karimnagar City Police Training Centre has emerged as a tourism spot with the development of different attractive points in the campus.

Though there are two parks, Ujwala park and Deer park, located downstream of Lower Manair Dam in the outskirts of Karimangar town, the City Police Training Centre (CTPC) is turning out to be a major attraction in the city. Besides people, the center is also attracting hundreds of migratory birds.

Rock garden, cow shed, vermin compost manufacture units, fish pond, birds’ water points, lotus pond and others have been developed in the campus.

Besides rock garden, Rasi vanam is attracting many wherein a walking track has been developed with eight different types of materials such as gravel, pebbles, sand, paddy husk, block soil and water.

It is similar to a walking track wherein the Prime Minister Narendra Modi walks. The visual of Modi walking on a track which was developed with similar features was telecasted on television channels over an year ago.

Statues of tiger, deer, duck, fish, stork, swan, desert plants and others developed on the rock garden are eye catchy.

About 60,000 trees of 150 varieties including medicinal and herbal plants have been planted in about 20 acres of the 38 acre police training center. Administrative building, barracks and grounds are located in the remaining area.

While 12,500 plants of 35 varieties were planted in one acre under Miyawaki phase-I, 14,800 trees of 33 varieties were planted in 1.14 acres in phase-II.

Besides Miyawaki plantation, separate vanams such as Vepa (Neem), Nimma (Citrus limetta), Teku (Tectona grandis), Allaneredu (Syzygium cumons), Kanuga (Pongamia pinnata), herbal garden, nakshtra and rasi vanams have been developed in a big way.

There are a number of rare medicinal and herbal plants in the PTC centre of which some of them like Sarpakshi (Ophiorrhiza mungos) and Kaligattu (Stereospemum suaveolens), were brought from Nasik of Maharashtra. Water is being supplied to trees through a drip system with the help of eight borewells.

In order to create a village atmosphere, a water well, bullock cart and others are also arranged to attract visitors. To attract birds, water pits and feeding bowls have also been arranged to trees in different places.

About 400 coconut trees are planted either side of the 2.5 kilometer distance walking track wherein outsiders also are given entry for walking.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy, who is behind the idea, informed that they were planning to plant 5,000 to 6,000 more plants in the coming days.

Talking about growing cows, he said Jeevamrutham was manufactured with cow waste and vermicompost and it is being supplied to trees as manure instead of chemical fertilizers. Nakshatra and rasi vanam were developed by following mythological concepts, he added. Moreover, people also believe that they could get relief from their sins by praying to some plants. It motivates the people to protect trees, CP opined.
