Karimnagar: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the State government was committed to finding a permanent solution to the long-pending problem faced by the people of Karimnagar by shifting the dumping yard from the town.

Stating that it was not possible to shift the garbage piled up over the last 40 years in one go, the Minister said it would take about one year to completely relocate the dumping yard. Prabhakar, along with Choppadandi MLA Medipally Satyam, SUDA chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy, Karimnagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Praful Desai and corporators, visited the dumping yard on Wednesday.

Stating that the issue had been brought to the notice of Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar during his visit to Karimnagar, he said the matter was also brought to the attention of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during his recent visit to Choppadandi. Responding positively, the Chief Minister assured that the dumping yard would be shifted and a new facility would be arranged between Warangal and Karimnagar.

The new dumping yard would be developed by taking all necessary measures to avoid inconvenience or disputes between the two towns over its maintenance. A suitable method would be finalised to shift the already accumulated garbage as well as the waste being generated every day, he said, adding that an NGO had come forward to assist in shifting the garbage.
