Jagtial: Collector Chitra Mishra expressed hope that Karimnagar would become a role model in the prevention of road accidents. Officials of all departments were making special efforts to control road accidents by giving them top priority. The Collector, along with Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam, participated in the road safety committee meeting held at the Collectorate conference hall here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that in order to educate people about road safety measures, the state government is going to conduct an ‘Arrive Alive’ programme from April 13 as part of the 99-day action plan of Prajapala Pragathi Pranalika.
As part of the programme, people would be educated about traffic rules and road safety measures, she said, and advised that motorists must wear helmets and seat belts while driving to protect themselves from accidents. She instructed police and R&B officials to take safety precautions at accident-prone spots.
Explaining road accidents in the district through a PowerPoint presentation, CP Gaush Alam said that a majority of accidents were occurring due to human errors such as rash driving, drink-and-drive and violation of traffic rules. He advised motorists to follow traffic rules and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. Motorists must wear helmets and seat belts while driving, he added.
Officials from TGRTC, R&B, medical and health and other departments participated in the meeting.
