Karnataka: POCSO, Murder accused shot dead by woman cop while fleeing custody in Hubballi
A woman PSI in Hubballi shot dead a man accused in a POCSO and murder case after he attacked the police and tried to escape during a site visit. The accused, Ritesh Kumar, was declared dead at Karnataka Medical College.

Hyderabad: A woman police officer opened fire on a POCSO case and murder accused person killing him, after he allegedly attacked the police team and tried to flee in Vijayanagara area under Ashoknagar police station limits of Hubballi – Dharwad in Karnataka on Sunday.
Reports reaching here said the Hubballi Commissioner of Police N Shashikumar told newsmen that the PSI accompanying the police team took the accused person Ritesh Kumar (35) to his place of residence to verify his antecedents when he attacked the police team and damaged the vehicle by hurling stones. The accued person tried to assault the police and ran away from police custody.
“One of our PSIs, Annapurna opened fire and shot at him”, the commissioner told newsmen. Ritesh Kumar sustained two bullet wounds on his leg and chest. The injured man was brought to Karnataka Medical College where he was declared dead on arrival, he narrated. Ritesh Kumar (35) was a native of Patna in Bihar.
The Hubballi police went into a state of high alert after the body of a five year old girl was found in an abandoned shed. Police teams had begun investigations and identified Ritesh Kumar as the accused person. Based on the complaint of the girl a case of murder and POCSO was registered and the accused person was taken into custody.
The shooting incident took place when the police took him to his place of residence to verify his antecedent. Ritesh Kumars allegedly assaulted the police and attempted to run away. In the process a police vehicle was damaged and stones were hurled at the police team. Further investigation is in progress.
