Hyderabad: Former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao extended greetings to the people of Telangana on the eve of the 78th Independence Day. He paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices paved the way for the nation’s freedom.
In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao said 79 years had passed since India broke free from the chains of slavery and embraced self-rule. He hailed the sacrifices of countless patriots as invaluable and recalled their role in securing independence.
Recalling the national freedom movement, the BRS chief said Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence movement and peaceful struggle had inspired the fight for the separate State of Telangana. He stated that the sacrifices made for self-respect and self-governance have often been misused for selfish politics in independent India.
Expressing pride over Telangana’s decade-long progress since its formation, Chandrashekhar Rao said the State had emerged as a model in independent India. He felt that Independence Day celebrations were more meaningful when the fruits of freedom reach all citizens and contribute to comprehensive development.
