Hyderabad: Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy has once again raised concerns over the functioning of the Congress government, this time backing Mahabubnagar MLA Yennem Srinivas Reddy’s demand for more funds to legislators to address local issues in their constituencies.
On Thursday, Rajgopal Reddy supported Srinivas Reddy’s appeal that the State government allocate more resources directly to legislators to deal with constituency-level concerns.
In an article published in a vernacular daily, Srinivas Reddy criticised the government for neglecting local issues, alleging that not even 10 per cent of what is spent on welfare programmes and mega projects is earmarked for grassroots needs.
“If the government does not spend sufficient amounts on addressing local issues, then the very purpose of democracy will be defeated. Legislators should have privileges to act on minor issues and the State government should ensure that legislators spend Rs.25 crore annually in their respective constituencies,” Srinivas Reddy demanded.
Endorsing the Mahabubnagar MLA’s stand, Rajgopal Reddy said the government must accord priority to local concerns. Sharing the article on X, he remarked: “I believe majority of MLAs have similar opinion. Assembly constituency funds will be useful in improving the living standards of people.”
He further stated: “The Chief Minister should recognize and act upon the fact that it is responsibility of the State government to allocate funds as required for resolving local issues while implementing different welfare schemes.”
