Siddipet: The revenue at the Sri Komuravelly Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is increasing gradually over the years, proportionate with the rising number of devotees to the temple as well. During the last five years, the revenue of the temple has almost doubled. The temple, which has nearly 600 years of history, earned just Rs.11.35 crore in the 2019-2020 financial year. This shot up to Rs.20.97 crore during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the temple revenue had declined to Rs.10.75 crore in 2020-2021. However, it has continued to increase since then. The temple earned Rs.18.10 crore, Rs.18.12 crore and Rs.18.74 crore in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 financial years respectively. The main sources of income for the temple were hundi collection, arjitha sevas, vows and sale of prasadams.
According to the temple authorities, they earned Rs.7.59 crore through hundi collection, Rs.8.39 crore through sevas and vows fulfilling of devotees and the rest from through selling prasadams and other sources. The temple earns most of the income during the jatara time and on Sundays, when it witnesses heavy influx of devotees. The temple authorities said the Endowments department took over the temple administration in 1956 when the annual income of the temple was just Rs.1,500. However, it went on to increase gradually. During the 10 years under the BRS rule after Telangana was created, it underwent a tremendous transformation as the government took up various development works on the premises of the shrine.
BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao was the first and last Chief Minister ever to visit the temple. He had allotted lands and additional funds for temples to take up multiple development works to improve the facilities to the devotee influx. The BRS government took up installation of a queue complex with Rs.12 crore outlay. The BRS government spent Rs.36 crore besides presenting a gold crown, a silver moustache, silver doors and other articles. The government also took up the development of a double lane road from Rajiv Rahadhari to the shrine and up to the hillock with an outlay of Rs 10 crore.
