Kothagudem: Kothagudem police have built three high-level bridges and six pipe culverts across different streams in remote forest areas along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border to ensure road connectivity for several adivasi hamlets in both States.
The construction of the bridges, which started six months ago between Vaddipet and Pusuguppa in Cherla mandal, has been completed and is awaiting inauguration. The bridges and culverts were built with an estimated expenditure of Rs 10 crore sanctioned for development activities in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas.
Low-level causeways across the streams caused inconvenience to adivasis from Chhattisgarh, and at times they were forced to risk their lives to cross the streams during the monsoon season when the streams overflowed.
It may be noted that adivasis from Chhattisgarh usually visit Cherla and other areas in the district to purchase essential commodities in local weekly markets and to sell forest products collected by them. They also depend on government hospitals in Cherla and Bhadrachalam for their medical needs.
To address the problem, the district police took up the construction of high-level bridges and culverts. According to officials, the bridges could provide connectivity to around 150 hamlets such as Rampuram, Bhimaram and others in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
Prior to the construction of the bridges, the district police laid a 1.9-km BT road in April 2025 at a cost of Rs 3 crore to enhance road connectivity between Pusuguppa and Rampuram through the bridges.
Both the bridges and the road would help adivasis travel to Cherla, Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem towns in case of medical emergencies and other needs, Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju stated.
It may be recalled that in July 2025, the district police also launched mobile hospital-ambulance services for adivasis living in remote villages along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border at a cost of Rs 1 crore released through Special Central Assistance funds.
