Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has called out the Congress government’s apathy towards the migrant workers in Sigachi industrial blast in Pashamailaram. He criticised the government for handing over the mortal remains of the deceased to the bereaved families in disposable cardboard boxes, terming it disgraceful and inhumane treatment.
Expressing outrage over reports that the bodies were packed in cardboard boxes and sent without dignity, Rama Rao said Revanth Reddy has reduced the deaths of nearly 50 workers into a mere photo shoot opportunity. “It’s an appalling charade. Are migrant workers any less human, Revanth?” he asked. He sought to know why the government was unable to provide dignity in their death and closure to the families.
The BRS working president stated that while human remains are being transported in cardboard boxes, families are falling at the feet of police for information. “There is no exact data available about the number of people who were on-site when the accident happened,” he said, reminding that the families of the eight workers who died in the SLBC tunnel incident were still waiting for compensation and accountability.
He recalled how during the COVID-19 crisis, the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao ensured that migrant workers were treated with respect by offering food, shelter, medical help, and free transport to their respective home States. He said Chandrashekhar Rao treated migrant workers as equal stakeholders and partners in development. “Most importantly, he provided them with respect and hope. Despite having a great example set by him to follow, Revanth Reddy reduced the deaths of about 50 workers into a mere photoshoot,” he added.
