Kothagudem: The members of Kothagudem Bar Association staged a day-long Deeksha at the district courts complex demanding the Centre to abolish CrPC 41(A) on Friday.
The Deeksha was staged as part of State-wide protests against Section 41 (A) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) which allows police officers to grant police station bail to the accused in bailable offences.
The Bar Association executive committee members, Sadiq Pasha, Kasani Ramesh, Arakala Karunakar, Uppushetti Sunil and NP Chowdhary said a resolution has been passed in Bar Council of India in the year 2020 demanding the revocation of the section. But the Union Home Ministry has not yet responded to the demand despite the fact that there were several instances of police officers misusing the judicial power to grant police station bail. After the amendment of Section 41 of CrPC in 2010, police were enjoying increased independence.
The amendment was leading to misuse of powers by corrupt police officers. Accused were easily getting bail and hence offences have increased. Therefore the association was demanding the Centre take a relook at the police station bail practice, they said. The association members Ramesh Kumar Makkad, Jalasutram Sivaram Prasad, K Pullaiah, GVK Manohar Rao, Gajula Rammurthy, Janapareddy Gopikrishna, Mendu Rajamallu and others were present.
