Hyderabad: Mother from Hyderabad seems to be more progressive in terms of love marriage when compared with overall Indian mothers. About 84 per cent of mothers of young men and women in Hyderabad are in favour of love marriage, while this is true for only 50 per cent Indian mothers. Dating app TrulyMadly’s new survey has revealed that more than half of Indian mothers are now embracing the winds of change and getting comfortable with their children finding their partners through dating apps.
The survey, which was conducted to find out the current stigmas associated with dating in India, also revealed that 84 per cent mothers from Hyderabad are increasingly endorsing love marriage for their children. Also the survey revealed that 37 per cent of mothers from the Southern region – including Hyderabad — are more accepting of their children finding partners on dating apps.
On a pan-India basis, over 45 per cent of respondents expressed that their mothers are more worried about their marriage than their fathers and also 70 per cent female and 80 per cent male respondents from tier-1 and 2 cities indicated mother favouring love marriage. Mothers in non-metros like Jaipur, Indore, and Lucknow are emerging champions of their daughters’ choice with 55 per cent of respondents indicating men are pressured more for marriage. With more women working in metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata, 53 per cent said mothers continue to pressurize daughters more.
Snehil Khanor, Co-founder & CEO, TrulyMadly said, “We went out to understand the stigmas and apprehensions around dating in India, but stumbled upon a completely transformed mindset of not only the younger generation but their parents as well. I believe a lot of this evolution has come from the persistent efforts in our society to champion women’s rights, reduce gender discrimination, and sensitize against gender stereotyping. These findings reflect one thing clearly that mothers who are often assumed to be shackled in age-old societal rules have managed to shake off a lot of it.”
The survey was conducted among 5,000 young men and women from across the country.
