Mahabubabad: District Collector VP Gautham has asked the forest officials to take steps to promote eco-tourism activities in the Forest Compartment No. 669/1 near Pakhal Lake in the district.
The Collector along with District Forest Officer (DFO) T Ravi Kiran inspected the site on Thursday to check out the possibility of attracting tourists by introducing eco-tourism activities and arrived at a decision to construct a watch tower for bird watching in the place besides introducing cycling in the forest area and boating in the lake. “It is a picturesque location, we can promote the site as a best tourist destination for the birders, nature and adventure lovers,” he said and suggested formation of a four- member committee in order to protect the nature and wildlife in the area which comes under the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary.
Meanwhile, the waterfall located at Miryalapenta in the Bayyaram mandal is also attracting many tourists. The waterfall is a mesmerizing sight for the tourists as it is formed by seven wells in a row on the hillocks in the dense forest of the district. Sources said that the officials are also planning to promote the spot as the eco-tourism activity. DFO Ravi Kiran, who earlier worked in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district as the DFO, promoted ecotourism activities in the district, particularly at the Pandavula Gutta (Hillock), and he earned a good reputation as the DFO in promoting the tourist activities.
