Mahabubnagar: After Hyderabad, it is now the turn of Mahabubnagar to boast of hugely popular Basti Dawakhanas to provide quality treatment and medicines to the poor, especially those in slums.
Speaking after inaugurating four Basti Dawakhanas at Yenugonda, Old Palamuru, Veerannapet and TD Gutta on Monday, Excise and Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud said the basti dawakhanas were set up in the town taking a cue from Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao’s initiative in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.
These facilities would have a doctor, female doctor, nurse and lab technician. Apart from treatment and medicines, diagnostic tests would also be done at these clinics, he said. “The idea is to offer quality treatment to the poor. The economically backward sections cannot afford treatment in private hospitals and as a result, they delay treatment and get admitted to government hospitals in the last minute,” he said, adding: “Apart from facilitating early diagnosis of diseases, these clinics will serve people in the vicinity. They do not have to travel long for treatment.”
The Minister appealed to the people to make a good use of the facility and wanted officials to construct separate toilets for patients and staff at the basti dawakhanas. He instructed the District Medical and Health Officer Krishna to ensure doctors and staff report to duty daily and deliver quality service.
These basti dawakhanas would not only aid in containing the Covid spread in these testing times but also provide quality medicare to people throughout the year, the Minister said.
