Malkajgiri Traffic Police booked 242 motorists in a special drunk-and-drive crackdown between February 16 and 21. Most offenders were two-wheeler riders. Police warned of strict action, including culpable homicide charges, in cases involving fatal accidents.

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Traffic Police intensified enforcement over the weekend, booking 242 motorists in a special drunk-and-drive crackdown aimed at curbing road crashes between February 16 and 21.
According to officials, the majority of offenders were two-wheeler riders. Of the total cases, 211 involved two-wheelers, 13 three-wheelers, 17 four-wheelers and one heavy vehicle.
Police said of those caught, 217 offenders had recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 15 motorists had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 10 were found with alarmingly high levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
Traffic officials said driving under the influence of alcohol is a grave offence and warned of stringent action in cases involving fatal accidents. Officials stated that those responsible for deadly crashes while intoxicated would be booked under culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
