Hyderabad: The State government’s ambitious new programme ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ is all set to commence soon and many more Basti Dawakhanas will dot the Urban Local Bodies located around the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), said Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday.
“The poor’s biggest financial burden is the money spent on health and education. With an aim to offer quality healthcare services, Basthi Dawakhanas and hospitals are being built and to provide higher access to education, the Mana Ooru-Mana Badi programme is all set to begin in 26,000 government schools with an estimated cost of Rs 7,289 crore,” he said.
Foundation for Rs 400-cr worth works
The Minister was speaking after laying foundation stones for various development works in Jalpally Municipality. The Minister also laid the foundation stone for a series of developmental works with an estimated cost of around Rs 400 crore in Thukkuguda Municipality, Jalpally Municipality, Badangpet Municipal Corporation and Meerpet Municipal Corporation.
When the elected representatives of Jalpally including Abdullah Saadi, Jalpally Municipal Chairman from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party told that before the State was formed the water crisis used to haunt them, the Minister said that now drinking water was being supplied to every household. “The Jalpally municipal chairman said that before the State was formed people in this area faced problems due to scarcity of drinking water and after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took up the Mission Bhagiratha project, drinking water is being supplied to every household,” he said.
He also said that additional roads will be laid on the Airport route and infrastructure will be developed on the Waqf Board land in Jalpally with an estimated cost of Rs 29 crore. “On a 10-acre land belonging to the Waqf Board, a municipal office, hospital and other infrastructure will be developed as there is no government land available here. The proposal will be placed before the board members soon,” the Minister said.
Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Chevella MP Ranjith Reddy, MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy, MLC Yegge Mallesham and others participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony.
